"Beautiful, dangrous, loyal, kind. These words pretty much describe the Tideripper" -Unknown Source
Appearance[]
Tiderippers have a small crest on their heads which helps with echolocation while hunting. They have a fin-like paddle on their tail which they use to propel through the water and control direction in the air. There is a large wing-like fin going down each side of their tail. They have paddle-like legs that have strong and large claws. These claws are blunt and cannot do much except for adding grip while running on rocks. They have large powerful wings that, while useless in water, are very well suited for harsh and strong winds. Generally, Tiderippers are green or blue (and any shade in between). Warmer colors are very rare and are usually results of a genetic mutation. Some Tiderippers are known to have designs although they are not too common.
Mutations[]
Warm-Colored Scales[]
Tiderippers with warm colored scales carry a genetic mutation. This mutation often causes weaker bones and cartilage as well.
Smooth-Tail[]
Tiderippers with the "Smooth-Tail" mutation lack the usual tail fins and paddle-fin. They have trouble with swimming and flying and most do not live past 5 (when one does, they usually have stronger legs and wings and larger lungs).
Personality []
Tiderippers have a loyal bond with riders and other members of their herds. They can be very determined, to the point of going to war for loved ones. They are fearless, fierce, and protective. If you bond with a Tideripper nothing can ever break that bond.
Abilities[]
To protect themselves, Tiderippers have to types of "fire" they can use. They can collect water in their mouths, boil it and spit it on attackers. They also have a plasma blast that is a bit less powerful than a Fury's. Their wings are very sharp and can cut through corals, driftwood, trees, and other objects that may block their path. Their claws, blunt as they are, help with staying steady on wet and slippery rocks near rivers and other freshwater sources. They also have beautiful "singing voices". They were often mistaken for mermaids by sailors and while trying to catch a glimpse of what made the beautiful sound, would often crash their ships in their desperate search. They use echolocation to find their prey while hunting and to navigate the seas at night. An individual's abilities may be slightly different or lacking in some areas due to being an individual, this page is about the species in general.
Weaknesses[]
Tiderippers, being dragons that live in and near freshwater, do not like saltwater as it gets beneath their scales and itches. They do not give up in fights easily because of their dependence on their armor, stealth, shot limit, and speed levels. Often this gets them hurt or killed and is laughed upon by other dragons. Tiderippers are also crazy about juniper berries. If they live nearby a juniper bush, they collect seeds and then put them with their nest. They find them tasty and also seem to drive away small annoying bugs. The whole pack protects their juniper bushes and often small territorial battles will be fought over the bushes because of a misunderstanding about who owns which bush. An individual's weaknesses may be slightly different or lacking in some areas due to being an individual, this page is about the species in general.
Life[]
Eggs[]
Tiderippers have boring eggs. They come in green, blue, and purple. Tiderippers lay their eggs in shallow pools that have sunlight at least part of the day. The mother Tiderippers stay by their eggs 23/7 with one hour a day where they can find food. The father watches the eggs during that hour then, goes back to helping to defend the herd with the other males.
First Breath to Hatchling []
After six months of incubating the eggs finally hatch. They can fly for short amounts of time. When they turn one, they stop eating regurgitated fish. Then, they start to eat fresh fish and the occasional pile of seaweed. At two, they will start to develop friendship bonds and bonds with their siblings.
Hatchling to Shortwing []
When Tiderippers turn three, they undergo a major growth spurt including a longer crest and more teeth. Their tails get longer and the fins on the side of their tails grow to be noticeable. During this age section, Tiderippers learn their place in their pack and start to learn basic life skills such as cleaning themselves, swimming in fast currents, and flight for extended distances. They out-grow this stage at 6 years of age.
Shortwing to Broadwing []
Kinda in the teen/tween stage of life, Tiderippers have a complete set of teeth and a near fully grown crest. The fins on the sides of their tails get nearly as big as they will ever get. They can fly as far as a broadwing Tideripper but have by far more energy. They learn how to hunt, track down predators, and how to herd fish together to catch. They now know their places in their pack and can now go on scouting missions to find new rivers of lakes to live near.
Broadwing to Titan Wing []
Now "adults", broadwing Tiderippers are fully grown length and wingspan-wise and often gain alpha-ship in their packs in this age. Their color intensifies making them bright shades of their original color. If their color was already bright, it will either go into a pastel or fade into a different shade close to the original color (i.e. blue into purple or green).
Titan Wing[]
Titan Wing Tiderippers are a beauty to behold. They have a larger crest that fades into several different shades of colors. The fin on their back gets significantly longer and their tail paddle gets larger and, like their crest, gains more color.
Development[]
They literally just were a mind bloop. I was tired (ok... it was around midnight...) and wanted to design a new dragon and started to just draw a creature based on the Parasaurolophus and Manta Ray. So, ya get the Tideripper. The name was a bit more difficult. My ideas were Seasong, Tideripper, or Waveblade. My friends, siblings, and parents were super helpful in deciding their names so, if any of you are readin' this I'm just gonna say Thank Y'all! Y'all were so helpful in deciding their name!

Starbright[]
Starbright is a friendly and energetic Tideripper. She was abandoned by her parents pretty young and lived alone for about a year before she found Lemonlime and Berryskye, sibling Glidewings, who were also abandoned. She took Berry into her own talons, treating the little one as her own little sister while Lemonlime was off "annoying everyone to death," as she put it. Her main coloration is night-sky blue, but she is speckled with white spots that resemble stars, and her wingtips fade into light blue, then green, then purple, and her tail fins are a light purple.
Duskcloud[]
He is under the care of Vanitas as his fatherly figure. His scales are mostly purple but there are blueish-green bits of color on his tail fin and fin. He was naive but, until Vanitas told the truth about the world, he's more merciless and determined.
