With the announcement of HTTYD: The Nine Realms on 10/13/2021, Temeraire's character is considered prophetic by L1quidMarbl3, who created the character in 2019 shortly after the release of The Hidden World. Temeraire's character is also based on what L1quid speculations of what the modern era would be like for dragons in 2019 (a bit more grim/dark/realistic than the Nine Realms show).

Description

Ruth has black scales, white patches on his body, and blue eyes. He looks like a Night Fury with some Light Fury characteristics. Because he is a (partly) domesticated dragon, Ruth has dragon rider's gear strapped to his body, which can be removed by his human rider/owner at certain times.

Personality

Ruth is very curious about the world, yet is skittish around what he does not know/understand.

Ruth hatched to his parents Telgar and Ruatha in 2003 AD in the Hidden World.

Trivia

• Ruth is based off of Dragonriders of Pern, which was the first series to depict dragons and humans living side-by-side each other (albeit the series is a science-fiction/fantasy hybrid); and his design is loosely based off the Night Light shown in the teaser for HTTYD: The Nine Realms.
  • Note (12/03/2021): Ruth's page was considered for deletion as the Night Light's name is confirmed to be "Thunder". But because Thunder's character was a blatant Toothless rip-off in The Nine Realms, L1quid decided to keep Ruth's page.
• "Ruth" is a Hebrew name meaning "friend" and was also derived from the Dragonriders of Pern character Ruth.
• Even though Ruth and Temeraire are distantly related to each other and exist in the same universe, L1quid is treating them differently based on their respective storylines.
• Ruth's original theme was Coldplay's Parachutes. It was changed when L1quid attended one of the band's livestreams and found out they agreed with ideas L1quid does not believe in.
• Temeraire is Ruffrunner's descendant, The Alpha is Dart's descendant, and Ruth is Pouncer's descendant.
• Ruth's human name - "Stella" - is the result of Jackson mistaking Ruth for a female dragon, and that Ruth's coloration evokes the feeling of the night sky for Jackson. (L1quid believes that the coloration of Night Lights should evoke images of the moon, the stars, the night sky, and space.)
• Ruth (male Night Light), Keroon (female Deadly Nadder), Twin (male Hideous Zippleback), and Iron (female Gronkle) replace Thunder, Feathers, Wu/Wei, and Plowhorn in L1quidMarbl3's version of HTTYD: The Nine Realms. Similarly, Jackson (male human), Eartha (female human), Dawn (female human), and Thomas (male human) replace Thomas Knullersen, D'Angelo Baker, Jun Wong, and Alexandra Gonzalez in HTTYD: The Nine Realms.
  • L1quid's version of the dragons of The Nine Realms are more in line with the features that made the dragons of How to Train Your Dragon iconic yet lovable. The storyline of these dragons will be more in sync with real life (in terms of blood, gore, language, the whole shebang) - not like the fluffy pillow that is The Nine Realms.
• Night Light names - "Ruatha" is the Anglicized form of "rua atha" ("red's ford" in Irish Gaelic) and is the name of a hold in Dragonriders of Pern; "Telgar" is the name of a hold and a character in Dragonriders of Pern
• Monstrous Nightmare names - "Rukbat" is derived from the Rukbat system in Dragonriders of Pern and the real-life Rukbat star; unknown
• Human names - "Eartha" is a combination of the word "earth" and the suffix "a"; - "Thomas" is the Greek form of the Aramaic name "Ta'oma", meaning "twin"; "Dawn" is the period of time when the sun begins to rise on Earth
