Orca is Lincoln’s Nightstrike, a rare kind of Strike class dragon, who first appeared in the first How To Train Your Dragon movie.

Description[]

The rarest and most intelligent of the dragon species that even surpasses the Night Fury, the Nightstrike is distinguished by its dark and bright color and piercing blue eyes. Orca is one of a kind; she and her children being the only Nightstrikes ever seen in Berk.

Appearance[]

Orca has a mostly black body, but the underside of her body, including her wings, are pure white. There are white spots on her legs and above her blue eyes. She has plenty of spines on her back and around her head. Strapped to Orca’s back is a long brown saddle with a red padded seat, a small storage space in the back, and a single handle in front for both hands.

Personality[]

In the face of kind hearted people, Orca is a gentle giant. But in the face of someone evil, like Viggo or Ryker, she isn't afraid of getting brutal, such as when she burned Drago alive after he and his dragon army tried to destroy Berk in How to Train Your Dragon 2. She tends to be a bit hostile to those she doesn't trust, such as Heather when she first joined the Riders, but is capable of warming up if they have truly redeemed themselves. She's also very protective of Lincoln.

Skills and Abilities[]

Speed and Agility: Orca can fly over one hundred and fifty miles per hour, which is much faster than a Night Fury ever fly. Her aerial acrobatics, though requiring Lincoln’s help to pull off, allows her to escape rather brutal confrontations with little difficulty. Even when not flying, Orca can tear along the ground at terrific speeds and is one of the most agile dragons on land, shown being able to leap from trees, boulders, walls, etc.

Firepower: Orca can breathe out a combined ionized oxyacetylene and methane-based, billowing purple flame burning at approximately 3950 °C. This makes it hotter than the Nadder's magnesium flames and the Night Fury’s ionized Oxyacetylene flames. If Orca goes into a situation with the lack of agility and blind spots from faster or smaller enemies, she can cover this by flipping in midair in three-dimensional circular motions, resulting in engulfing the surrounding area and searing the targets. It is able to melt steel, dragon-proof metal, solid rock, and can turn a Viking into ash in seconds. She can also spit out large Plasma-charged fireballs that can knock people off their feet, while at the same time being able to destroy entire battlements with bombshell-like power. They are also able to reflect off surfaces such as rock walls, so Orca can use this as a tactic to take out fast-moving objects in tight, narrow spaces.

Physical Attributes: Orca has shown herself to be exceptionally strong and agile, sharing the agility, speed, and maneuverability the Night Fury and Light Fury are known for. She is capable of the dive-bombing tactic Toothless uses by compressing her wings against her body for a streamlined, aerodynamic tactic that increases the forces of her physical and breath attacks or allows her to use her greater moment, her dive even being faster than that of Toothless due to the more streamlined scales she inherited. On top of all that, her body is flexible in many places. Despite this, she is also known to have high stamina and is extremely durable.

Strength and Combat: Orca is considered a strong dragon, being able to hold off Vikings and Dragon Hunters. She is also a very capable and persistent fighter on the ground. She has easily taken out a Singetail in a short amount of time, as well as holding her own with Changewings and Slitherwings. Orca has shown how strong she is when she took on the mother Death Song and fought a Deathgripper who has the same power level, as well as when she pushed a Whispering Death and Titan Wing Monstrous Nightmare to the ground. As a Strike Class Dragon, Orca has a vice-like jaw that can exert great force.

Swimming: Orca is shown to be a great swimmer, at least for a dragon not in the Tidal Class. She can swim at high speed and hold her breath for quite a while. She has also been seen sea skimming from one island to another.

  • Sea Skimming: A particular way of swimming that, according to Hiccup, "It's like flying, but not". To perform this, Orca dives and jumps out of the water continuously. This ability doesn't require for Orca to be ridden by anyone, and she can do this all by herself.

Saliva: Oddly, Orca’s saliva actually has an incredible amount of healing properties. Hiccup also stated that Toothless' and Orca's saliva doesn't wash out. It is also proven to be an effective adhesive, more than human saliva, as shown when Lincoln uses it to heal by using types of herbs.

Jaws: Orca has a high jaw strength. Her teeth could shred thick metal plates as if they were paper.

Senses: Orca has highly acute senses that are far greater than that of the average wolf. She is able to hear from great distances, at most three miles away and her sense of smell allows her to find any Viking's scent from long distances, even if the material has been in the water for a long time. She can find anything based on scent alone. Orca also has excellent eyesight, being able to see farther than many other dragon species, especially small things from far away. She is highly adapted with nocturnal vision, allowing her to see in near-total darkness.

Intelligence and Communication Skills: As a Strike class dragon like Toothless, Orca’s intelligence is unrivaled amongst the other dragons and often displays the attributes of an incredibly strategic thinker. Orca seems to be one of the few dragons who attempts to show creativity. She is able to comprehend silent commands via hand signals and motions and has also been taught by Lincoln to recognize her riders’ Dragon Call as a summon. Her intelligence was also demonstrated when Orca was able to understand commands through Lincoln’s whistle and finger snap. Orca can almost completely understand everything said to her. She can understand verbal cues and non-verbal cues. Orca also displays an impeccable ability to learn, process, and remember various tricks like the "Barrel Roll". In daily, casual conversations, Orca also appears to be able to grasp Lincoln's words and comprehend most of them.

Echolocation: When Orca is at a location where her sight is limited, making it hard to fly, she can use a special signal. This signal, taking the shape of white-colored sound waves, bounces off of all objects and obstacles nearby and allows the dragon to avoid them, even in mid-flight. Unlike bats, this signal, or at least part of it, is still low enough to be within the human hearing range; Lincoln can hear the dragon using the signal. Orca can also use this method when she is trying to find an object in open areas where visibility is low.

Synchronization: Thanks to the time they spent together, Lincoln and Orca are able to fly together in perfect sync. Not only that, but they also understand each other the best out of all Dragons and riders like Hiccup and Toothless do, which was demonstrated several times.

Thermal Vision: Orca has a thermal vision that allows her to track anything even during the most dangerous storm. She has the ability to detect body heat in the form of heat signatures, which is similar to a pit viper. Cold temperatures appear as green or blue while warmer ones appear yellow to dark pink. Orca can also distinguish shapes from her thermal vision, similar to seeing visually, which helps it identify objects.

Climbing: Orca is an excellent climber on both chains and many different types of terrain shown to be able to climb mountains and Viking catapult towers as shown. She can also climb against stone/metal walls while running quickly.

Cloaking: Orca has the ability to cloak, meaning that she can seemingly disappear. She does this by channeling energy to turn her scales reflective and become invisible. As Orca enters her 'cloaked form', it causes a massive wave of energy that blows everything back within a close radius.

Blue Oleander Immunity: Like Scaldrouns, Orca is immune to Blue Oleander and loves to eat them.

Dragon Root Immunity: Orca is one of the few known dragons that are immune to Dragon Root.

Eel Consumption: Having immunity to Eel Pox, Orca is able to consume eels without suffering any of the ill effects that most dragons suffer from when eating eels, making her one of the only four dragons capable of eating eels.

Shot Limit Recharge: Due to reasons unknown, consuming an eel recharges Orca's shot count or increases her shot limit by an unknown amount, making her one of the few dragons that are able to recharge their shot limits immediately.

Air Current Detection: Using her wings, spines, and tail fins, Orca can detect the changes in wind currents when she is in flight allowing her to adjust her direction and altitude as needed and use it to her advantage.

Weaknesses[]

Camouflage is not an advantage Orca can use due to her scales being both black and white, meaning she cannot blend into the environment as Toothless might, forcing her to have to rely on her cloaking to avoid being detected based on sight.
